Any soil, any fertility — tansy thrives everywhere from clay to gravel. pH 5.5–8.0. A perennial that tolerates what kills other herbs; its only demand is sun. In rich moist soil it will simply do better than you want it to.
Minimal — 1/2 inch weekly for young plants, then nothing. Mature tansy survives drought that browns the lawn. Wet, rich ground is how it becomes a thug.
Tansy spreads by seed and root — cut flowers before they set seed and share divisions generously. Some gardeners sink a barrier around it; the determined ones grow it in containers.

🌿 Find remedies →Cosmetic in tansy. Cut it down after first frost and it's gone. Don't compost seed heads — it's that determined.
🌿 Find remedies →Cut flowering stems for dried bouquets and bundles. Harvest young leaves sparingly for seasoning — tansy is bitter and is used in tiny quantities (be mindful: once a common medicinal, it needs caution in food).
Dries beautifully — hang bunches upside-down in a dark, airy spot and they keep color and scent for years. Store dried flower heads in sealed jars, away from light.
